Overview:

Volunteer Information Specialists (VIS) Committee members use computer technology skills to serve on the chapter, state, and national levels. The state VIS Committee is responsible for overseeing all the websites of the state society and the chapters, including social media sites such as Facebook. You may also contact the state VIS Chairman with questions about using e-Membership, completing the CMR, or using other features of the National DAR website.

An online presence for your chapter is one of the most powerful public relations tools you can use to attract new members and connect with current members. Refer to the Virginia DAR VIS Committee Handbook for detailed information and guidelines.

At the chapter level, you can help with:

Building and maintaining your chapter website, drafting and disseminating chapter yearbooks and newsletters, providing information on the Chapter Master Report, indexing history books and genealogical records.

PMD and CMR Instructions for Chapter Committee Chairs can be found here.

At the state level, you can help with:

Training on e-Membership and Prospective Member Database, creating writeable PDF forms, volunteering for special projects, assisting other chapters with their websites. Let us know if you have advanced Microsoft Office or technology skills.

At the national level, you can help with:

Creating writeable PDF forms, indexing history books and genealogical records, volunteering for special projects, assisting other chapters with their websites. Click here for service requirements for the VIS pin.
