DAR Service for Veterans

BACK TO COMMITTEES SECTION

The DAR Service for Veterans Committee provides support for this most patriotic segment of our nation's population. Opportunities have been expanded due to emphasis placed upon veteran support through national and state efforts.

It has been suggested that we work on a card that you could pass out when you visit a veteran, see a parked car with a veteran sticker on it, and at the airport when you see a military person. Click here for a template that you can print and have business cards printed.

Donations of personal care items, stamps, books, magazines, and volunteers to plan entertainment for special events and holidays, are very much in demand. Short visits and interviews of our veterans are also encouraged. Our three Virginia Veteran Hospitals need our support.

Please record your chapter donations using the Chapter Master Report. Instructions can be found here.

Service for Veterans Awards

DAR Outstanding Veteran Volunteer, Outstanding Youth Volunteer, and Outstanding DAR Service for Veterans awards are three contests sponsored each year by NSDAR.

Nominations are sponsored by chapters, and judged at state - division - and national levels. Winners of each category are presented awards at State Conference and Continental Congress, respectively. The state deadline for these contests is December 1st. Click here for explicit instructions.

Wreaths Across America

There are several ways for the Virginia DAR chapters to participate in Wreaths Across America. The simplest is to find a participating cemetery near you and participate in Wreath laying in December. This year Wreaths Across America Day will be on Saturday, December 14th. Other ways are to help a participating cemetery is by increasing their wreath sponsorships.

To help grow Wreaths Across America, take on a location not currently a part of the program.

The most important way to be a part of the mission is to Remember, Honor and Teach.

Operation Homefront

Operation Home front is an organization that assist Veterans and their families with needs of all kinds. Visit their webpage and see how your chapter can help veterans and their families right here in the USA and specifically in Virginia.

Contact State Chairs Patricia D. Rowley / Donna Sayre or State Vice Chair Seyward McKinney for more information.
