Revolution to Legacy: Preserve, Protect, Remember
The 2025-2028 state project supports Record Preservation
and Historic Restoration across Virginia.
Preserving Virginia’s Historical Legacy
The State Regent’s Project for 2025-2028, is a dedicated effort to safeguard the Commonwealth’s rich historical and genealogical heritage while fostering community-driven initiatives. The primary focus is raising funds to support record preservation and historic restoration across every district in Virginia. These funds will facilitate critical activities such as the conservation, digitization, and proper storage of vital historical documents and genealogical materials, ensuring their accessibility for future generations. By preserving these records, the project upholds the DAR’s mission to honor and perpetuate the legacy of America’s founding era. Distinct from the efforts of the State Standing Committee titled Preservation of Records, this initiative will channel resources into targeted preservation projects, enhancing the protection and availability of Virginia’s historical treasures.
In addition to preservation, the State Regent’s Project allocates 20% of its annually raised funds to provide grants for chapter projects of an historic, educational, or patriotic nature. Administered and overseen by the Executive Committee, these grants empower local DAR chapters to undertake meaningful initiatives that align with the organization’s core values. Whether restoring a local landmark, creating educational programs, or promoting patriotic activities, these grants will amplify the impact of DAR chapters across Virginia. The project’s structure ensures that funds are used effectively to support both preservation and community engagement, fostering a deeper connection to Virginia’s historical narrative.
Should the funds raised exceed the needs of the primary preservation and grant initiatives, the Executive Committee may direct surplus contributions toward additional historic preservation projects within Virginia or special improvements at the National Headquarters. This flexibility ensures that every dollar raised maximizes the project’s impact. At the conclusion of the 2025-2028 administration, any unexpended funds will be transferred to the State Standing Committee titled Preservation of Records, ensuring continued support for preservation efforts. Through this multifaceted approach, the State Regent’s Project not only preserves Virginia’s historical legacy but also inspires and equips communities to actively participate in its stewardship.
Chapter Grants
Virginia Convention of 1776
The State Regent’s Project includes a chapter grants program begun under the Turbyfill Administration, now called "Starburst Grants", using 20% of the project’s income annually for the grants. These grants will support chapter projects of an historic, educational, or patriotic nature. The proposal submission deadline and guidelines for proposal submission will be released soon. Starburst Grants will be overseen by the Executive Committee.
Please note: Grant requests for completed projects will not be accepted.
Excess funding raised in this effort may be considered for other historic preservation projects within the Commonwealth of Virginia or for special projects supporting improvements at National Headquarters.
